VDC Director
About Your Opportunity:
As VDC Director, you will lead Wohlsen's Virtual Design & Construction function and set the strategy that turns model-based construction into a competitive advantage across Business Development, Preconstruction, and Operations. This role is responsible for the VDC team, its standards, and its growth — building a multi-region capability across our operations that helps project teams reduce risk and improve execution.
You will ensure VDC is engaged early and consistently across all phases of construction, shifting coordination upstream, standardizing the deliverables teams can count on, and delivering visual progress tracking that gives project teams and owners a clear, model-based picture of where a project stands against plan. You will translate field and client needs into a coherent service offering that measurably reduces field rework and conflict.
You will manage and develop VDC Managers and Engineers, set the direction for tools and technology investment, and act as the executive-facing voice of VDC with clients, ownership, and company leadership.
How You'll Contribute
· Lead, manage, and grow the VDC team, including VDC Managers and Engineers across all regions.
· Own the VDC strategic roadmap and related software selection.
· Establish standardized VDC deliverables, minimum service levels, and engagement processes by project phase, so teams receive consistent value without needing to ask for it.
· Drive proactive VDC involvement earlier in preconstruction, including model creation from early design documents and constructability input during estimating.
· Set direction on technology investment, including in-house 4D animation and modeling capabilities, balancing build vs. outsource decisions.
· Serve as the lead for VDC in client pursuits, owner presentations, and leadership reporting.
· Partner with Business Development to position VDC as a differentiator in pursuits and proposals.
· Partner with Preconstruction and Operations leadership to embed VDC into estimating, constructability, and field execution workflows.
· Partner with Operations to implement standards and workflows that sustain model use through construction and closeout, ensuring field teams continue to leverage the coordinated model for installation, verification, progress tracking, and as-built accuracy.
· Develop and manage vendor and technology partnerships (e.g., Autodesk, modeling and reality-capture partners).
· Provide training to Wohlsen Team Members on VDC capabilities and processes.
· Establish metrics to track VDC's impact — coordination quality, field conflict reduction, and pursuit win contribution.
· Build the long-term case for VDC's role across the full project lifecycle, including an eventual extension into facility operations and owner O&M support.
